Motivation Exercise

Description

This activity is a group discussion about the nature of motivation and motivational factors.

Learning Points

After completing this activity, participants will better understand:

• what motivates people

• what motivates themselves

• how to motivate their employees.

Method

1. Explain that this activity is about motivation.

2. Ask the participants to state out loud what they think motivates people.

3. Write the answers on the flipchart.

4. Ask the participants which factors motivate them.

5. Then ask the participants which factors they can use to motivate others in the workplace.

6. Encourage discussion of the motivational factors that should or should not be used in the workplace.

 

Trainer Guidance

The answers written on the flipchart will include factors such as those shown on the list of motivational factors (shown below). Encourage the participants to develop their own list but as an alternative the trainer may wish to distribute this handout to the participants for use as the basis of the discussion.

Conclusion

Summarize acceptable methods of motivation in your organization.
