Additional Action Steps:

When making a request from someone you should always follow these simple rules:

1.                    Never make a request that is simply an “I want” request.  These are the easiest requests to turn away.  Instead requests should be approached by showing that (i) you deserve what you are requesting (ii) this will improve the performance of your department, your division or other employees (iii) this will be a benefit to person you are making the request from.

2.                    Do your homework.  Always thoroughly think through your request before making it and making sure that you have already thought of any problems areas in your request ahead of time.  This way you already know the answer to the most likely obstacles you will face.

3.                    Always provide reasonable support for your request.  It is not enough to request a new machine for your department because it will save the company money.  You must show exactly how it will save money and how much.
