Listen Up!The Leadership Listening Test
Once your advisors begin speaking, and you are willing to hear what they have to say, your listening skills are immediately put to the test. Use this exercise to get a better understanding of how effective a listener you really are.This exercise requires a facilitator or partner to read the questions to the group.
Rules:
(a) Do not take notes
(b) Do not verbalize your answers, write them down
(c) Write the numbers 1 through 12 on piece of paper.
(d) Listen carefully—each question will be read only once.
The reader must make sure they read each question slowly and clearly.Then each participant should score their own test.Each participant should score their own test. After completion ask for volunteers to give answers to each question. If they are wrong read off the right answer to the group.
Discuss the results with the group:
Did the group perform well?
What hindered their ability to listen?
What helped their ability to listen?
How can you apply the lessons on the job?
