Follow the action steps below to get a jumpstart on living according to priorities versus time.

1.Write your typical task list (or type it into your electronic device, or use whatever tool that you are comfortable with.)

2.Compare each item on the list to your core values.Do those tasks map to what is most important for you or your work?

3.Look carefully at the remaining tasks.Are they considered “urgent?”At least initially, you may have to address them.If not, you can begin to address the background to the urgent tasks, in order to decrease their incidences in the future.

4.Use the tasks that make the “core values” cut as a basis for a weekly schedule.Block out time as needed, and leave some white space for unexpected or people-related issues, which can’t always be restricted to a particular schedule.

5.Finally, look back at your mission and core values.Are they all represented in your week, and given the appropriate priority?If not, add them in to the week and create tasks to begin integrating your values into daily life.
