    Book Report - Who

This breakout book, co-written by Geoff smart and Randy Street (2008, Ballantine Books), offers the reader an insightful method for hiring.  We all know that each hiring decision gone wrong can mean thousands of dollars for the organization.  In a time when extra weight is put on each decision and every budget dollar is savored, this book is very timely.

Our book report this time features re-th!nk, A Business Manifesto for Cutting Costs and Boosting Innovation, by business architect, Ric Merrifield (Pearson Education, 2009). This title cuts through trendy advice about the current economy and focuses on smart tenets of business thinking.

The Truth about What Customers Want by Michael Solomon, PhD (2009, Pearson Education Inc), is a “how to” handbook for the way people and organizations act, and the consumer behavior that drives them to buy particular products or services.

We’ve all seen them in our halls, in neighboring cubicles, and maybe even in the corner offices.  Those employees who for whatever reason are trying to skate by, becoming expert on doing the minimum amount of work possible to keep collecting their paychecks. Their actions and attitudes break down department morale and productivity like a rampant virus.

This week we picked up the intriguing title, What Would Google Do, by Jeff Jarvis (HarperCollins, 2009).  How could we resist sharing it? Jeff Jarvis is edgy, informative and entrepreneurial, being the proprietor of one of the most popular business blogs on the web. His book reflects all those qualities.
